Temu, Shein Raise Prices Ahead of New Tariffs

Read, Watch or Listen

Online retailers Temu and Shein raised prices on many goods ahead of new tariffs taking effect May 2nd. The "de minimis" exemption on shipments under $800 is expiring, leading to a 120% tariff or a $100 (increasing to $200 in June) fee per item. CNN observed significant price increases on some items, while others remained unchanged. Both companies cited increased operating expenses due to tariff changes. This price hike disproportionately affects lower-income consumers who rely heavily on these affordable retailers.
