Scientists have discovered the oldest known ant fossil, a 113-million-year-old 'hell ant' (Vulcanidris cratensis) from Brazil's Crato Formation. This exceptionally preserved specimen, belonging to the extinct Haidomyrmecinae subfamily, is the first hell ant found in South America and the first from a rock impression fossil.
