Chipotle to expand in Mexico amid Trump tariffs

Chipotle Mexican Grill will open its first Mexican restaurant in early 2026, marking a significant step in its international expansion. A development agreement with Alsea, which operates other chains in Latin America and Europe, will facilitate the launch. Following the initial opening, Chipotle plans further expansion within the region. This move comes amidst strained US-Mexico relations, although Chipotle has diversified its avocado sourcing to mitigate potential trade war impacts. The company is optimistic about success, leveraging Mexico's familiarity with its ingredients and preference for fresh food, despite past failures by other US chains in the Mexican market.
