Venice introduces a controversial new entry fee for day-trippers to curb the influx of "eat and flee" tourists who clog the city's landmarks without contributing significantly to the local economy. Starting Friday, the fee will be enforced for 54 days this year, nearly double last year's 30 days. A late booking fee of 10 euros will also penalize unprepared visitors.
