Synology is tightening restrictions on third-party NAS hard drives

Synology will restrict third-party hard drive use in its 2025 Plus Series NAS devices, prioritizing its own branded and certified drives for optimal performance and reliability. Existing users and 2024 and earlier Plus Series devices are unaffected. This change, while potentially limiting consumer choice and cost savings, aims to reduce compatibility issues and improve system stability. The restriction does not apply to J- and Value-series devices.
