Analysis of a 3,000-year-old mummified crocodile using non-invasive x-ray and CT scanning revealed a bronze fish hook in its stomach. This suggests the crocodile was intentionally caught and sacrificed to the Egyptian god Sobek. The study, published in Digital Applications in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage, highlights the use of modern technology to understand ancient rituals. The intact organs, unlike human mummies, allowed researchers to determine the crocodile's last meal and the method of its capture.
