Tap title to read story
Nationals reliever Jorge Lopez hit Pirates players Bryan Reynolds and nearly Andrew McCutchen, sparking a bench-clearing brawl at PNC Park. Lopez, who apologized for the incident, was ejected. McCutchen's subsequent walk and Oneil Cruz's grand slam extended the Pirates' lead in their 6-1 victory. The incident follows a similar ejection last year for Lopez, where he threw his glove into the stands, leading to controversy and his subsequent release from the Mets. Lopez's high ERA this season also contributed to the tension.
