Researchers using a remotely operated vehicle captured the first-ever deep-sea video footage of a colossal squid. The juvenile squid, about 1 foot long, was filmed at a depth of 1,968 feet in the South Atlantic near the South Sandwich Islands. Adult colossal squids can grow up to 23 feet long. The footage was verified by independent scientists before release, and researchers hope to film an adult in future expeditions.
