Google is reportedly preparing a new, more expressive update to Material Design 3, potentially unveiling it at Google I/O 2025 in May. Evidence from code changes and internal discussions suggests this update, internally called "Material Design 3 Expressive," will focus on making apps more engaging. Early glimpses of the redesign have been seen in the Android Settings app and Gboard, featuring updated UI elements like switches and progress indicators. While specifics remain scarce, the update is expected to be a minor evolution rather than a complete overhaul of the current design system. The full impact on Android apps may not be immediately apparent, likely taking weeks or months to fully integrate.
