Scientists have filmed a colossal squid, the world's heaviest invertebrate, alive in its natural habitat for the first time. The footage, captured near the South Sandwich Islands by a remotely operated vehicle during a 35-day expedition, shows a juvenile squid. Previously, colossal squid were only observed dead or in the stomachs of predators. This discovery, marking the 100th anniversary of the species' identification, provides invaluable insights into the elusive creature's life cycle.
