Scientists have filmed a colossal squid, the world's heaviest invertebrate, alive in its natural habitat for the first time. The footage, captured near the South Sandwich Islands by a remotely operated vehicle during a 35-day expedition, shows a juvenile squid. Previously, colossal squid were only observed dead or in the stomachs of predators.
