UK inflation in March 2025

UK inflation unexpectedly dropped to 2.6% in March, below the anticipated 2.7%, according to the Office for National Statistics. This follows a 2.8% rate in February and a 3% rate in January. The decrease is attributed to lower recreation and culture costs and motor fuel prices, while clothing prices increased. The Bank of England, which held interest rates at 4.5% in March, will closely analyze this data before its May 8th meeting, potentially leading to rate cuts. Despite the drop, analysts predict a temporary slowdown, with inflation expected to rise to approximately 3.5% in the coming months.
