Ancient landmark Hagia Sophia brings travelers and tourists for its rich history

Istanbul's Hagia Sophia, a former church, museum, and now mosque, captivates tourists. Initially a 6th-century Byzantine basilica, its immense size and lavish marble decorations are unmatched. Built by order of Emperor Justinian I, it served as a Christian center for nearly 1000 years before Ottoman conquest transformed it into a mosque. Despite its current status, the Hagia Sophia remains a major tourist attraction, drawing millions annually to marvel at its architectural grandeur and historical significance, with visitors now allowed access to the upper level only.
