Walmart is pausing hires that require H-1B visas, the BBC understands, after President Donald Trump imposed a new $100,000 fee on applicants. The retailer, which saw more than 2,000 approvals in the first half of 2025, said it remains committed to talent while being “thoughtful” about its approach. Bloomberg first reported the move. The order applies to new requests and has roiled employers; Amazon led approvals with over 10,000 in the same period, while Microsoft, Meta, Apple and Google each exceeded 4,000, according to US data.
