Trump says he'd love a third term. House Speaker Johnson says there's 'no path'

House Speaker Mike Johnson shut down President Donald Trump’s flirtation with a third White House bid, saying they’ve discussed it and the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment leaves “no path” forward. On day 28 of the shutdown, Johnson called third-term chatter “trolling the Democrats” even as Trump said he’d “love” to run again and allies pass out “Trump 2028” hats. Johnson predicted “four strong years,” while Trump dismissed a legally possible vice-presidential workaround as “too cute.” Meanwhile, Trump is testing limits, from sending National Guard troops to cities to accepting private donations for the military and a new White House ballroom.
