Trump Bonds With Japan’s Leader Over Baseball and U.S. Beef

In a gilded Tokyo palace, President Trump and Japan’s new prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, showcased easy chemistry—watching baseball, exchanging gifts and invoking their bond with Shinzo Abe. They signed two vague accords, declaring a “new golden age” for the alliance and cooperation on rare-earth supply chains, and later said the countries would work together on shipbuilding. Addressing U.S. troops, Trump said he’d approved the first missiles for Japan’s F-35s and touted Toyota’s plan to invest over $10 billion in U.S. plants.
