Trump Says War With Venezuela Is Unlikely but Suggests Maduro’s Time Is Up

In a CBS 60 Minutes interview aired Sunday, President Trump said he doubted the United States would go to war with Venezuela, even as he warned that Nicolás Maduro’s days as president were numbered. He said Venezuela had treated the U.S. very badly, amid a U.S. military offensive that included 15 strikes in the past month on vessels suspected of drug smuggling in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. Legal specialists called the strikes illegal extrajudicial killings. The administration labels them a counterdrug mission, and Trump confirmed authorizing CIA covert action. He declined to discuss land strikes.
