Trump asks Supreme Court to allow National Guard deployment in Illinois : NPR

The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to greenlight National Guard deployment in Illinois after lower courts blocked it. In a Friday appeal, Solicitor General D. John Sauer said troops are needed in the Chicago area to prevent “ongoing and intolerable risks” to federal agents, arguing a Thursday restraining order improperly impinges presidential authority and endangers personnel and property. Trump has cast Chicago and other Democratic-led cities as lawless, federalized Illinois’ Guard over Gov. JB Pritzker’s objections earlier this month, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent several hundred troops to the state.
