Staffing Shortages Trigger Delays at Orlando Airport

As the government shutdown drags on, Orlando International Airport faced a ground delay Thursday night, with flights bound for MCO averaging 2.7 hour waits from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. ET, the FAA said. Earlier, arrivals were briefly halted when no certified air traffic controllers were available, later eased after staffing increased at the F11 Central Florida Tracon. Ronald Reagan Washington National also saw staffing related delays averaging 90 minutes. Delta urged Congress to reopen government, while air traffic controllers pressed for an end to unpaid, grueling schedules that have pushed some to take second jobs.
