Dozens of federal agents staged a masked, military-style ICE raid on Canal Street in Manhattan’s Chinatown on Tuesday, detaining several people amid shouting crowds and protests. DHS called it a targeted, intelligence-driven operation against counterfeit goods. The NYPD said it had no role. Mayor Eric Adams and Gov. Kathy Hochul condemned the action, as did Sen. Chuck Schumer and other city officials, accusing the Trump administration of fear-driven tactics. A DHS spokesperson said protesters became violent; at least one was arrested for allegedly assaulting a federal officer. Mayoral candidates also criticized the raid.
