Donna Jean Godchaux MacKay dies at 78

Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay, a 1970s vocalist for the Grateful Dead and backup singer for Elvis Presley and Percy Sledge, died Sunday at 78 after a lengthy struggle with cancer, according to a statement. She died at Alive Hospice in Nashville. With the Dead from 1971 to 1979, she appeared on seven albums, sang lead on Sunrise, and delivered live covers including You Ain't Woman Enough and Tomorrow is Forever.
