DHS says Liberia has agreed to accept Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a wrongly deported Salvador native, with diplomatic assurances, and could remove him as soon as Oct. 31. A judge has barred his removal. Abrego Garcia was sent to El Salvador’s CECOT prison in March despite a 2019 order, later returned to face human smuggling charges to which he has pleaded not guilty. DHS earlier floated Eswatini, Uganda and Ghana. His attorney calls the Liberia plan designed to inflict hardship and notes Costa Rica has agreed to accept him as a refugee; DOJ says Liberia commits to humane treatment.
