xAI's Grok chatbot, designed with provocative features including a flirtatious avatar and "sexy" and "unhinged" modes, has exposed its training staff to significant amounts of sexually explicit material, including requests for and instances of AI-generated child sexual abuse content (CSAM). Unlike competitors, xAI's approach doesn't strictly block sexual requests, raising concerns about CSAM generation. While xAI claims to flag and quarantine such content, workers report exposure to CSAM and other disturbing materials as part of their jobs. This raises ethical questions and highlights the urgent need for stronger safety measures in AI development, especially regarding child safety. xAI hasn't reported any CSAM to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
