Cam Skattebo has 'long road' after emergency ankle surgery is a success

Giants head coach Brian Daboll said rookie running back Cam Skattebo underwent successful emergency ankle surgery Sunday night and could leave a Philadelphia-area hospital as soon as Monday. The team said Skattebo sustained a season-ending ankle dislocation; video of the injury led sports medical professionals who have not examined him to suggest a possible open fracture. Daboll, who traded texts with Skattebo late Sunday and at 4:08 a.m. Monday, called him an energetic spark who leads the team with seven touchdowns. He added Skattebo faces a long road, though expectations are he could be ready next season barring setbacks.
