Former President Joe Biden, 82, returned to Boston after completing radiation therapy for prostate cancer, accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Edward M. Kennedy Institute. Calling these “dark days,” he urged Americans to stay optimistic amid what he called attacks on free speech and tests of executive limits by President Donald Trump. Biden highlighted federal employees who resigned in protest, universities and late-night hosts he said were targeted, and Republicans who broke ranks. He defended checks and balances and closed with a call to “get back up.” He left office after one term and ended his reelection bid.
