LSU parts ways with AD Scott Woodward after criticism by Louisiana governor

LSU and athletic director Scott Woodward parted ways effective immediately, the school announced Thursday, a day after Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said Woodward would not choose Brian Kelly’s replacement. Executive deputy AD Verge Ausberry was named interim. Board chair Scott Ballard thanked Woodward for six years. Landry criticized Kelly’s massive contract and buyout and put the coaching search under the board. Kelly’s tenure ended Sunday after clashes with Woodward over staff changes. Woodward, hired in 2019 and known for splashy hires including Kim Mulkey, is owed more than $6 million in buyout, subject to offset by his next job.
