Former army lawyer detained amid leak uproar

Israel's former top army lawyer Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi was detained after admitting she approved the leak of surveillance footage from Sde Teiman prison showing an assault on a Palestinian detainee. Her resignation, brief disappearance and beachside recovery set off a political firestorm, with right-wing figures vilifying her and alleging she staged a suicide attempt. A judge extended her detention until Wednesday on suspicion of fraud, breach of trust and obstruction. The uproar has eclipsed the abuse case and highlighted Israel's polarization, as another officer was arrested in the probe and protesters earlier stormed the detention center.
