Ian Watkins dies after Wakefield prison attack

Ian Watkins, 48, the Lostprophets singer serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offences including the attempted rape of a baby, has died after an attack at HMP Wakefield, authorities said. West Yorkshire Police were called on Saturday to an assault; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Sources said another inmate attacked him with a knife. Detectives are investigating. The death follows a 2023 prison assault on Watkins and comes less than two weeks after inspectors reported violence at Wakefield had “increased markedly.”
