French authorities have detained several men after the theft of eight pieces of jewellery from the Louvre, prosecutors said. One suspect was stopped around 10 pm Saturday at Charles de Gaulle Airport as he prepared to fly abroad; another was arrested soon after in the Paris region, media reported. The museum closed a week ago following a four-minute daylight raid, in which intruders used a movers' truck ladder to cut into a first-floor gallery, fled on scooters, dropped a crown, and took an emerald-and-diamond necklace Napoleon gave Empress Marie-Louise. The $102 million haul sparked a manhunt and security debate.
