French authorities arrested suspects in the theft of jewels worth tens of millions of dollars from the Louvre, Paris prosecutor’s office said. Prosecutor Laure Beccuau said one man was detained as he prepared to leave from Roissy (Charles de Gaulle) airport; French media reported two suspects were taken into custody around 10 p.m. Saturday. One had planned to fly to Algeria, according to BFMTV, which also said the two are around thirty and known to police. The heist in the Apollo Gallery last weekend lasted seven minutes, with nine items taken from two high‑security cases, the culture ministry said.
