Two suspects in the Louvre jewel heist have partially admitted involvement and were hit with preliminary charges of organized theft and conspiracy, Paris’s prosecutor said. Arrested Saturday in Aubervilliers and at Charles de Gaulle airport, the men are expected to be held as the eight French crown jewels stolen in under eight minutes on Oct. 19 remain missing. Police acknowledged glaring security lapses: aging, partly analog cameras, an authorization that expired in July, and a first alert from a passing cyclist. With no private insurance and a revamp not due until 2029–2030, France faces a costly reckoning.
