Border Patrol takes lead role in Trump administration's Chicago crackdown, carrying out more arrests than ICE

Border Patrol agents have now made more arrests than ICE in Chicago’s “Midway Blitz,” signaling an expanded interior role under the second Trump administration. Since Sept. 16, CBP logged roughly 1,500 arrests to ICE’s 1,400, overtaking ICE after trailing in mid-October. Led by sector chief Gregory Bovino, aggressive sweeps have drawn protests and viral confrontations; a federal judge ordered agents to curb force and issue two warnings before using chemical agents after tear gas incidents, including one affecting children. DHS says more than 3,000 people were arrested in the operation, even as tensions with ICE simmer.
