Trump identifies funds to pay troops

As congressional talks to reopen the government stall, President Trump said on Truth Social he has “identified funds” to ensure active-duty troops are paid on Wednesday, October 15. He said he is using his authority to direct Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to deploy the money, and Hegseth amplified the message, writing, “President Trump delivers for the troops.” A White House official said the Defense Department can tap research and development money, which is available for two years, but offered no details on the amount. Trump had promised last weekend that service members would be paid.
