Trump levies new sanctions on Russian oil giants in push to end Ukraine war : NPR

President Donald Trump unveiled "massive sanctions" on Russia's oil industry, blacklisting Rosneft, Lukoil and subsidiaries to push Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table over the war in Ukraine. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called the move a bid to choke "the Kremlin's war machine" and urged allies to join, saying more steps could follow. The announcement coincided with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's Washington visit and a new Russian barrage that killed at least six people and wounded dozens, including children in Kyiv. Trump said both Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy must be "reasonable."
