Song Sung Blue Premiere Fuels Hudson Oscar Buzz

Craig Brewer’s Song Sung Blue premiered at AFI Film Festival, igniting awards buzz for Kate Hudson’s revelatory turn as Claire “Thunder” Sardinia. The Focus Features release, opening Dec. 25, tells of two struggling musicians who form a Neil Diamond tribute band and is being pushed in the Globes’ comedy/musical category, a possible Oscar launchpad. Praise also extends to Hugh Jackman, Jim Belushi, and breakout Ella Anderson. Brewer’s adapted screenplay could contend. If Hudson is nominated, it would be her first Oscar nod since Almost Famous, 25 years ago.
