2 Men Plotted Attack in Michigan on Halloween, U.S. Says

Two Michigan men, Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud, were charged in an alleged Halloween attack plot inspired by the Islamic State, according to a federal complaint. Investigators say the pair and a minor bought AR-15-style rifles, stockpiled weapons, and coordinated on WhatsApp, with details captured by an informant and an undercover officer. An affidavit describes extremist social media posts, contacts with an Islamic State member in Syria, and talk of mirroring attacks in France. While no target was settled, the filing says they used "pumpkin" as code for the date and were scouting LGBTQ+-friendly sites in Ferndale near Detroit.
