DOJ leaders blindsided by Halligan as James indicted

Attorney General Pam Bondi and DOJ leaders were blindsided when Lindsey Halligan, the Trump-installed U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, took a mortgage-fraud case against New York Attorney General Letitia James to a grand jury over prosecutors’ objections; James was later indicted. A DOJ spokesperson said the department is united and supports Halligan. Trump allies Ed Martin and Bill Pulte have pressed leaders to prosecute Trump’s political enemies, and Trump urged Bondi to act and named Halligan. A former DOJ official called the lack of notice extraordinary. Afterward, Bondi posted, “One tier of justice for all Americans.”
