Teacher's stabbing death affirmed to be a suicide following review

The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office reaffirmed Ellen Greenberg’s 2011 death as suicide after a reassessment tied to her family’s lawsuits and settlement. Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Lindsay Simon’s 32-page review cites 23 stab and incised wounds—many labeled hesitation wounds—31 bruises, no defensive injuries, and a door locked from inside, finding no evidence of foul play. Pathologist Dr. Marlon Osbourne, who performed the original autopsy, now says the manner should be something other than suicide. The family’s attorney condemned the review as flawed. A court hearing is scheduled Tuesday.
