Tens of thousands protested in Manila against a multi-billion dollar corruption scandal involving flood control projects. Clashes erupted between protesters and police, resulting in arrests and injuries on both sides. The protests, fueled by public anger over alleged ghost projects and the lavish lifestyles of contractors, were partly organized by Christian churches and coincided with the anniversary of martial law. President Marcos Jr., while acknowledging public anger, called for peaceful demonstrations, and the military was placed on alert.
