Mexican mayor killed during Day of the Dead celebrations

During Day of the Dead festivities in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mayor Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez was shot seven times in the historic center and died at a hospital, authorities said. A city council member and a bodyguard were wounded; the attacker was killed at the scene, and the gun was tied to previous clashes between rival groups. Hundreds later marched in black, chanting Justice Justice Out with Morena. Manzo Rodríguez had sought federal help against cartels and alleged local corruption; he was under reinforced protection. The killing follows the June slaying of Tacambaro's mayor.
