Midair Fork Attack Forces International Flight to Divert to Boston

Federal prosecutors say a Lufthansa flight from Chicago to Frankfurt diverted to Boston after passenger Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, 28, attacked two 17-year-olds with a metal fork during meal service. One teen’s sweatshirt deflected a stab to the shoulder; the other suffered a head gash. Crew and a passenger restrained him after he gestured as if firing a gun into his mouth, slapped a woman, and tried to strike a flight attendant, prosecutors said. Usiripalli was arrested, charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, and faces up to 10 years. Lufthansa rebooked travelers and provided hotels.
