McLaren Crash Hands Verstappen US Sprint Win

McLaren’s title fight unraveled in the United States Grand Prix sprint when Oscar Piastri clipped Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber at Turn One and bounced into Lando Norris, eliminating both; Fernando Alonso was also caught out. After a five-lap safety car, Max Verstappen beat George Russell, surviving a Turn 12 scare, to win, with Carlos Sainz resisting Lewis Hamilton for third. Verstappen trimmed his championship gap to 55 points behind Piastri and 33 to Norris. Kimi Antonelli claimed the final point after Oliver Bearman’s 10-second penalty. A collision that left Lance Stroll penalized ended the race under another safety car.
