A Romanian worker pulled from the rubble after a partial collapse at Rome’s medieval Torre dei Conti has died, Italian media and officials said. He had remained conscious during a long, perilous rescue, but an hour of resuscitation at Umberto I hospital failed and his death was declared at 12:20 am. Romania’s Foreign Ministry mourned him and said another Romanian trapped worker was evacuated and is out of danger. The tower, near the Colosseum and under restoration, suffered an initial collapse around midday Monday followed by another 90 minutes later. Three workers escaped; one is hospitalized in critical condition.
