Nicolas Sarkozy is set to enter Paris’s La Santé prison on Tuesday to begin a five-year sentence, becoming the first former French president in living memory to be jailed. Convicted of criminal conspiracy over Libyan funding for his 2007 campaign, he denies wrongdoing and will start serving time pending appeal, after a judge cited the seriousness of the disruption to public order. He expects solitary or placement in the prison’s vulnerable wing. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin says he will visit to ensure security. Sarkozy has packed clothes, ten family photos, and three books, including The Count of Monte Cristo.
