Canada PM Carney apologises to Trump over tariff ad

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he apologized to US President Donald Trump for an Ontario-funded anti-tariff ad that used a 1987 Ronald Reagan warning about trade barriers. Trump suspended trade talks with Canada and said he would impose an additional 10% tariff, calling the move wrong while noting a very good relationship with Carney. Carney said he had urged Ontario Premier Doug Ford not to run the spot. The dispute reportedly sparked an expletive-laced tirade between US envoy Pete Hoekstra and Ontario’s David Paterson, as Trump accused Canada of trying to sway an upcoming Supreme Court case.
