Two men in court accused of murdering Ian Watkins in Wakefield Prison

Two men appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court charged with murdering paedophile singer Ian Watkins, who was fatally injured at Wakefield Prison just after 09:30 BST on Saturday. Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, spoke only to confirm their identities during brief, separate hearings; no pleas were entered, and both were told to appear before Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday. Watkins, 48, the former Lostprophets frontman, was serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offences and had previously been attacked in 2023. A recent report said violence at the high-security jail has increased markedly.
