Illinois advocates filed a class action Friday alleging 'inhumane' conditions at ICE’s Broadview processing center, saying detainees are denied private attorney calls, coerced into signing paperwork they don’t understand, and confined in cramped rooms with insects and clogged toilets. The suit accuses ICE, DHS and CBP of violating detainees’ Fifth Amendment due process and First Amendment right to counsel, and seeks court-ordered improvements. ICE and DHS did not respond to requests for comment. Separately, protests over the facility prompted a judge to curb tactics by federal agents and require badges and body cameras for agents who have them.
