Energy chief clarifies US nuclear system tests

Energy Secretary Chris Wright said new U.S. nuclear testing ordered by President Donald Trump will not involve nuclear detonations, clarifying days of confusion after Trump’s social media post. Wright told Fox News the planned system tests use noncritical explosions to verify components and delivery geometry, not the bomb itself. Trump has remained vague about resuming explosive tests, saying, “You’ll find out very soon.” The U.S. has not conducted a detonation since 1992. Russia, while saying it abides by the test ban, warned it would match any U.S. return to explosive testing.
