Illinois progressive House candidate Kat Abughazaleh was indicted by a federal grand jury on felony charges alleging she assaulted and conspired to injure law enforcement during a Sept. 26 protest at an ICE facility in Broadview. Filed Oct. 23 and unsealed Wednesday, the indictment says she and others blocked an officer’s vehicle; she has not entered a plea and is due for arraignment Nov. 5. Abughazaleh, proclaiming innocence in videos, called the case political as footage of the viral skirmish drew calls for her arrest from right-wing activists.
