Palestinians celebrate as prisoners are released by Israel : NPR

Cheers and tears swept Beitunia and Khan Younis as Israel freed nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners under a Gaza cease-fire swap for hostages released by Hamas. Crowds draped keffiyehs, raised V signs, and carried the exhausted; one man said he endured hunger, abuse and lost 59 kilograms. The freed include about 1,700 Gazans held without charge during the two‑year war and 250 convicted prisoners, 154 exiled to Egypt. Israel warns celebrations risk arrest; forces fired tear gas near Ofer Prison. Rights groups cite abuse; Israel says it investigates. About 1,300 Gazans remain in custody.
